Building a Compounding Practice: Lessons Learned

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, the pharmacist and technician attendee will be able to:
  • Outline Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the pharmacy lab and front-end to build a Quality Assurance Program.
  • Identify guidelines for the Human Resources (HR), Financial, Marketing and Advertising Departments.
  • Identify potential pitfalls to avoid involving pharmacy design, policies and procedures, and work environment for employees.
  • Recognize the key areas of focus needed during the first year of pharmacy ownership.

Kate serves as a compounding pharmacist and President of Broadway Apothecary. She teaches pharmacy students from several colleges the art, science, and technology of pharmaceutical compounding. She also helps as a consultant to the Oregon Board of Pharmacy in matters regarding compounding. With the help of her forward thinking staff, Kate was the first in the state and among the first in the nation to attain accreditation for Broadway Apothecary.
